The wisdom of a child
When our kids were young, like all kids, they were full of questions. I used to try patiently to answer each. But I often did not know the answer, or found it just too tortuous to explain to a little kid. Besides, we did not have Mr Google in those days. So I regularly resorted to the typical response - Look, when you grow up you will understand.
Then one day I found my little four year old son, who is now a business executive, engrossed in a game all by himself, arranging tiny stones into various patterns in the garden. I tried to figure out what he was doing and the objective. I was stumped. So I began asking questions. It was soon apparent he did not want to be disturbed in his game. After a while of persistent questioning, he turned to me and said patiently - Dad, when you grow smaller like me you will understand.
When I relate this story to friends I typically get two types of reactions. Many are amused. But some find that response of a four year old rather profound.
What would be your reaction? and why?
